Richa (name changed) is an eight-year-old girl who has faced a lot of difficulties in her family. Her father is an alcoholic and physically abuses her mother, using foul language and violence at home. Due to this abusive environment, Richa's mother decided to seek help and approached our district's Child Welfare Committee who placed her in our childcare institution along with her younger brother.
Initially resistant and emotionally distressed, Richa misssed her mother and would cry every day. She begged to call her mother every day, pleading to come home and promising to help her with housework and studies. This emotional turmoil affected Richa deeply and her mother's heart ached to see her tearful eyes every day. UNable to bear it any longer, she made a personal commitment to take Richa and her brother back home as soon as possible.
Before this could happen, it was crucial to work with the parents to ensure they would be safe and secure. Our counselor, Priyanka, helped the parents to understand the effect their behavior was having on their children and the profound impact it was having on their mental wellbeing. Separating children from their families has lasting consequences on a child's emotions and bonding as all parenting shapes a child's development and psyche. We are committed to strengthening families to ensure the time the child is in our institution is kept as short as possible.
Through counseling and guidance, Richa's parents began to understand the importance of their relationship and the impact it has on their children. They also appreciated the significance of prioritising the concept of "family" and how it could be nurtured both at home and in our center. Having been counselled, Richa's parents understood the need for her and ner brother to be back at home under their care. They also realised that they would need to make positive changes in their behavior.
Today, Richa is back home with her parents, happy and content. We continue to keep in touch to ensure the parents are supported in reintegrating Richa back home and that they all remain committed to the promises made. All being well, Richa's brother will be joining her in the coming month, completing the family unit
The story of Richa highlights the importance of family dynamics and the role of counseling in rebuilding relationships and fostering a healthy family environment.
