Kishor doesn’t remember exactly when he arrived at Snehalaya, but it’s been his home for as long as he can remember. The people there - both the staff and the other children - are the only family he's known. Despite the challenges, he feels incredibly grateful for the care and support he’s received over the years.
After completing his 12th Standard exams, Kishor found himself at a crossroads. He wasn’t sure what direction to take in life, but he knew one thing: he enjoyed helping out in the kitchen at Snehalaya. Whenever he had the chance, he’d spend time there, learning and assisting in whatever way he could. It was in those moments that Kishor realised his passion for cooking and the hospitality industry. That’s when the idea of pursuing hotel management first crossed his mind.
Unsure of how to move forward, Kishor began visiting the Career Lab, an initiative by Snehalaya in collaboration with Sachet Foundation. The Career Lab helps students explore different career paths, and it was here that Kishor first learned in-depth about hotel management. With the guidance of Mayur Dada, a career coach from Sachet Foundation, Kishor got a clearer understanding of the field. He even spoke with older students who had already completed similar courses, which gave him more confidence in his decision.
During his time at the Career Lab, Kishor came across Saathiya Academy—a skilling program designed to help underprivileged youth gain skills and secure jobs in fields like hospitality and IT. With support from Snehalaya and Sachet Foundation, Kishor applied to the program, passed the interview, and earned a spot in their hotel management training course. Snehalaya continued to stand by him, helping with the fees and other necessities. Kishor also received immense moral support from Chandrakant Sir, Pallavi Ma’am, and his friends, which helped him prepare for his journey to Bangalore.
Kishor performed exceptionally well during his two-month training at Saathiya Academy. His hard work paid off when he landed an apprenticeship at the Hyatt hotel chain in Hinjewadi, Pune. His dedication during training was truly impressive, and it wasn’t long before Hyatt offered him a full-time position as an entry-level Guest Associate. Kishor now enjoys his job and is passionate about what he does. However, he knows this is just the beginning of his journey. He is currently exploring higher education opportunities in hotel management and the hospitality sector, with help from Sachet Foundation.
Today, Kishor serves as a role model for the younger children at Snehalaya. Reflecting on his journey, he says, "I never expected to land such a good job in such a short time, especially after coming from a sheltered environment. The people I met have been so supportive and caring. I am forever grateful for the guidance from Snehalaya and Sachet Foundation, as well as from Mohit Sir, Mandira Ma’am from Saathiya Academy, and my friends. I wouldn’t have made it this far without them."
Kishor’s story is a reminder that with the right support and determination, one can overcome the odds and achieve success. His journey is not just an achievement for him, but also a source of hope and inspiration for others who share a similar background. His dreams are growing, and with his dedication, the sky's the limit for what he can achieve next.
We wish Kishor the very best in his journey ahead and hope his story continues to inspire many more young hearts
