Two years back, in our Snehalya rehabilitation center, there lived a clever boy named Soham. Two years ago, he arrived at the center, a hesitant newcomer burdened by the weight of his past. Coming from a very poor family, Soham had been shuffled from one NGO to another, his health issues making it impossible for him to find a stable home.
Initially, Soham resisted staying at Snehalaya, longing for the comfort of his previous shelter. But that place could no longer accommodate him due to his health challenges. Amid his distress, Pravin Rathod, our Child Welfare Officer assigned to Soham, stepped in with unwavering support. Recognising the sadness that often clouded Soham’s spirit, he made a simple yet profound gesture — connecting him with his mother through a phone call. The joy on Soham’s face during those calls was a glimpse of hope, a reminder of love that brought him comfort.
As weeks turned into months, something remarkable began to happen. With consistent communication and care from our staff, Soham gradually became more stable, both emotionally and mentally. He began to open up, engaging with others and forming new friendships. The boy who once wanted to retreat into his shell transformed into a beloved companion among his peers.
Soham excelled in his studies, attending school regularly and impressing his teachers with his dedication and commitment. Complaints about him were scarce; instead, he embodied the qualities the school committee admired. In recognition of his hard work and growth, he was awarded the title of Best Student, a testament to his remarkable transformation.
Now in the seventh grade, Soham has not only excelled academically but has also discovered a passion for handicrafts. He dreams of building a career in arts and crafts, and the news of his achievements brought immense joy to his mother, who listened proudly during their phone conversations.
The team at Snehalya look on with hope, believing that Soham’s journey is just beginning. With each passing day, he moves closer to a brighter future, proving that with love, support and determination, change is possible.
