Empowering girls

Updated: Feb 7, 2023

As well as offering shelter, legal aid, counselling, vocational training and support to women in distress, our Snehadhar Project also works to prevent gender-based violence. As part of their outreach in January they ran a Nirbhaya Kanya Abhiyan workshop at Sriram Vidyalaya, Pimpalgaon Malvi.

The workshop addressed the need for girls to be fearless in today's changing circumstances.

Advocate Amol Dongre from Ahmednagar District Sessions Court explained the laws related to women, cybercrime and the proper use of mass media and complaint boxes available in schools and colleges. He appealed to attendees to be fearless and make revolutionary changes in their own lives and to seek the help of the police when facing any kind of problem.

Karate coach Pravin Kadam shared the importance of physical health giving demonstrations of the body’s power and weak points. The school’s Principal, Sambhaji Pawar, added the need to be fearless and develop physical, mental and emotional health to fight injustice and oppression.

The team also shared information about the support Snehalaya offers, including the prevention of child marriage and our helplines for those in need:
