As always there was a lot of excitement for Independence Day. After the raising of the flag, our Snehalaya English Medium School students performed music, dance and speeches and presented to traditional dresses of India’s diverse states. Chief guests were Major Rajesh Mundel from the Indian Army and Sanjay Dhame, Head of Hingangaon Education Cluster.
Following snacks it was time to inaugurate two new buildings at our Rehab Center. First is our new Rehab Center, Family-Based Care, Snehbhandan and Snehadhar offices. This complex will enable all staff responsible for our Rehab Center residents to collaborate and coordinate more effectively and facilities include counselling rooms and an activity hall. Opening the office was Deepak Kargal, Founder of Right Construction which donates 1,000kg of mangoes to us each year and Bhagwan Rampure, chief guest of our Youth Camp.
Our second building is our new enclosed ground floor hall below our Aliiance Hall. Named after Rabindranath Tagore this new space provides an extra meeting hall to protect us against the elements. This hall was inaugurated by Shingo Tatematsu, Director CEO, and Ankush Kondkhalkar, VP Finance, both from Eagle Burgmann India.
It was then time for everyone to apply their make-up and get into their costumes for our evening’s entertainment, our children’s annual birthday party. Our talented youngsters had been practicing for weeks and performed an array of dances and songs that truly showcased their impressive talents. They were so slick that one spectator from the UK expressed it was on the same level as a professional UK show. Birthday cake was cut and shared and following a group dance and quick change into their new birthday outfits our children enjoyed professional catering with the always popular pani puri, Shev bhaji and lots more by Annapurna Caterers.
We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this amazing day which remains the highlight of Snehalaya’s year, from cakes and catering to choreography, costumes and new clothes. You made a lot of children very happy (and tired).
