Christmas celebrations

As 2021 drew to a close our children started assuring us they had been nice in anticipation of the arrival of Father Christmas on 25 December. For the past six years our long-term UK volunteers St Nick and Elf Joyce have been recreating their own traditional Christmases to share with our Rehab Center children.

This year was no different and thanks to a generous donation from a long-time supporter they were able to organize another memorable festive day of treats for the children, women and staff that live in our children’s shelter home, women’s shelter and Himmatgram. The excitement started to build when, the Sunday before Christmas, each dormitory was able to shop for decorations to enter a competition for the best festive décor. The results were breathtaking with snowstorms, appearances by Santa and angels, Nativity scenes, gifts for the judges and dance parties.

Christmas day started with stockings filled with chocolates, balloons and an orange that had been magically delivered by Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. The children were then assembled for the unique arrival of Father Christmas on a JCB. Gifts were then distributed by dormitory, including games, puzzles and sports equipment and individual gifts of coloured pens and gloves for each person. Once they had received their presents, the children filed outside to visit special snack stalls with tasty treats including pani puri, popcorn and cold drinks and were able to choose from a range of activities including sports, films, dance and cake decorating. The day was rounded off with a special dinner including ice-cream and prize distribution for the winners of the dorm decoration and cake decorating competitions. Everyone was a winner!

Thank you to all of Santa’s helpers who helped deliver an extremely fun and filling day of festive treats to our very happy women and children. See you again next year…
