Sham-e-ghazal

NIGHT WIND

Ghazal ‘Gayaki‘, the art of singing or performing through poetic expression originated in Persia but was brought toIndia by the Sufis and has become an Indian classical tradition. Ghazal is a beautiful format which many songs are written to follow. They are independent of language. It is poetry in its distilled form to express feeling in words at their best. The poetry when merged with music results into a melody that soothes mind.

A ghazal is commonly the poetic expression of both the pain of loss or separation and the beauty of love in spite of that pain. And that is what Snehalaya is all about. Many of our beneficiaries are with us because they too have experienced the pain of loss and separation, but we hope our ‘Home of Love’ helps them to live happy, active and healthy lives.

We are grateful to our American supporters, Meena Sundaram (producer) and Rajeev Kumar, for organizing an evening dedicated to ghazals, “Night Wind- An evening of enchanting ghazals”. We are hoping that using the power of melodious ghazals will raise vital funds to help us continue our work and introduce a new audience of supporters, donors and sponsors.

The Boston event will feature locally based artists, a live band and ghazals performed by well-known artists. Dilip Acharya, Muheet Bharti, Shua Arshad, Pankaj Shah, Sankar Gangaikondan, Vijay Kumar, Meesha Acharya, Umesh Rao and Meena Sundaram will mesmerize the audience with their ghazals.

If you live near Boston why not join in and help? Funds raised will go towards supporting us to raise our children to be independent and ambitious and will help us to continue making sure there is no second generation prostitution in Ahmednagar and give more children a safe and secure future. https://boston.ashanet.org/ghazal

This event will take place on September 7, 2019 at Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library, 33 Marrett Rd, Lexington, MA 02421, USA
